Last opportunity to see collection of Chinese painting at Frankfurt in “The Garden of Satisfaction” (runs until 14 July 2024) on site
In the exhibition “Garden of Satisfaction – The Chinese Painting Collection” on show only until 14 July 2024, the Museum Angewandte Kunst Frankfurt has put on display the highlights of its under explored collection of Chinese paintings. Although the museum holds an extensive Asian collection (with around 5.000 objects) dating back to the late 19th century, Chinese painting remained a niche topic for a long time. It is only this year that the highlights of around sixty works are presented together – a rare occasion also given their light sensitivity.
The well explained and beautifully arranged exhibition – curated by Dr Stephan von der Schulenburg – marks the conclusion of a research project that started in 2020 and allowed to comprehensively address provenance, art historical and restauration issues of the paintings. Beyond the exhibits, all works are made publicly accessible with precise descriptions, transcriptions and translations of all inscriptions in the new collection module on the museum website, ensuring that experts and art lovers from all over the world can continue to engage with this part of the collection.
Installation views, description of the curatorial concept, access to the online collection and visiting hours can all be found on the museum’s website.
